Flying the Nest Part 5.

DECOmyplace

This is a website that I came across through word of mouth and well I love it. When I do eventually, if ever, own my own home I am definitely going to come back to this site for inspiration! The best part is that all of these rooms are actually real! Yes real! They all come from people's homes and are all their own pieces of heaven and brilliant inspiration for other folk!
The site is HERE! if you wanna have a look :)

Heres some of my faves!

My likes are all sooo different but I really don't mind :)

Flying the Nest Part 4.

 Social Work.
What my studies will lead up to.

As I've mentioned before I will be soon studying to become a social worker so as part of my 'Flying the Nest' chapter I would give a brief overview of the basic role of the job.

An excerpt from the Dictionary of Sociology, under ‘social work’:
“The generic term applied to the various organized methods for promoting human welfare through the prevention and relief of suffering. In the late nineteenth century, social work was largely voluntary (notably as a charitable activity on the part of middle-class women), and aimed primarily at the alleviation of material poverty. In the period since the Second World War, social work practice has become increasingly professionalized, and now has a much wider remit embracing emotional and mental as well as economic well-being.
(...)What they are expected to deal with are the wide range of problems which diminish the ‘quality of inner life’: for example, problems and crises associated with adoption, fostering of the young and old, marital reconciliation, sexual and physical abuse, and people’s relationships with one another generally.” (pg 622)

Marshall, G. (Ed.) (1998) Dictionary of Sociology, Oxford University Press: New York.
I like this definition because it sums up how I see social work. Where it once was an unrecognised profession, there are now many expectations placed upon social workers. It can sometimes been seen as difficult at times to differentiate between the roles of a social worker and the roles of other social service persons. Social work itself is quite broad, yet ultimately it’s about improving the quality of life of disadvantaged members of society.

What with this, my urge to carry it out, and my awesomely planned out wardrobe I may as well wear my underpants on the outside of my clothes and call myself the new Superman. (Superwoman can be cool but it's not 'the red and blue blurrr'.

Finally, I know this isn't technically 'flying' the nest but it is escaping but I love the Editors and I love this song so enjoy :)

Day 9.

Someone I wish I could meet.
Craig Owens.

'Nuff said.

Not gonna lie...these 30 day things are getting kinda boringggg!

Day 8.

My Favourite Internet Friend.

Well this is difficult as I don't have any internet friends per se. I have people who I talk to over the internet on a regular basis who I know but only use the net as communication device. So I'm going to address this to ALL sites on the net.

You make me happy, you make me sad. Sometimes I love the information you pass on to me and sometimes it makes me want to smash the screen. The internet provides me with such information on a daily basis that I caannot comprehend being without it. Whether its to check a tad bit of information on the net quickly to confirm a rumour or to just simply find out a piece of information, like a bus timetable. As much as I feel I was born in the wrong period I honestly feel that I do need to have the internet in my life as I like having the 'world at my fingertips'. So overall I would just like to thank the makers of the internet and allowing me to be as nosey in every subject possible. It makes my day :) sometimes.
But with everything, it has a darker side. It has a bad press in a way that makes a lot of people wary, quite right too. With the ever increasing risk of sexual predators lurking behind every innocentl-looking photo it's not suprising a lot of people dislike the internet; especially as the age of children using the net now is getting younger. But it is trying to be addressed. An example of this would be a short story board was put together for CBBC telling children about the dangers of the internet.

Like I said before everything has its dark side but in general the internet for me shines brightly.

P.S- Does anyone remember this computers from school?! With the little games that you were able to play with the whole 'Enter the Cave Y/N' ahhhhh, memories :')

Another collaboration from MAC!

Wonder Woman.
(DC Comics & MAC)
Spring 2011.

I know this is a bit far off but I'm ever so excited to see what this line could possibly bring to the life of MAC and me!
The whole range of colour cosmetics will be based around and featuring Diana Prince. This is one range I will definitely be purchasing (as the Disney Villians one has just seemed to drop off the planet- must research). I cannot wait to see whats included maybe an Amazonian lipstick, Tiara Gold eyeshadow and ofc an invsible Airplane concealor!
I feel the packaging will be as amazing as the product!

Day 7.

A childhood friend.

Let me set the scene.
I'm around the age of five and I'm in the Year One class at my original school. I'm not an agressive child but a jealous one then and a jealous one now. This story focuses around a book, the BFG because of my namesake, and well here goes.

Dear little girl who for the life of me I cannot remember your name,
Don't let this distract from this blatent heartfelt apology)
I'm sorry that when we were huddled around the bookshelf that winter morning that you fell prey to my teeth. I'm sorry that I WANTED and NEEDED the book you held in your hands I would not let you have it. I'm sorry that I left a mark on the back of your left hand that day. The worst part is that we were best friends before this incident but alas we were not afterwards!
The worst part was not that I may have damaged you BUT I got moved to a Catholic school. OH YES! I would've bitten twice as hard if I'd known!
Jeeeeez.
Anyway overall I'm sorry :)

Love Sophie, the biter xx

Lost & Found.

My Vintage Camera.

This was my 18th birthday present off my lovely Godmother (mentioned HERE! ) and well I used to use it all the time until the bills suddenly caught up with me!
Not only was the film massively expensive but to get the film developed meant me getting a small bank loan! Buttt, I swear as soon as I have money I'm getting this bad boy out again! I may even learn how to develop my own photos.
Hmmm, ideas.

OOTD:
H&M lace dress £7.00
Miss SelfridgeEarrings £1.50

Day 6.

A Stranger
(Well a little munchkin I once met on a bus.)

Dear little munchkin stranger,

I was late, as always, and sat in the second-to-last seat that was available. Next I see you stumbling down the middle of the bus and promptly pull yourself up onto the seat next to me and quickly fall into me as soon as the bus pulls away. After the millionth 'sowwie' you sit back and look up to you Mum who has placed a big bag in front of you while holding onto the pole.
You ask her for Wotsits and instead she pulls out an apple and hands it to you. You look at it like its alien and then ask her to 'start it for you' a practice in which I'm not at all familiar with and then I watched as she took a bite then handed it back to you. Oh! Thats what you meant.
While you sit there happily munching on your apple you just look up to me and ask 'do you wanna be my girlfriend?' I laughed and replied that 'I try to avoid dating people who I don't even know their names'.  From this you introduced yourself and I mentioned I didn't even know your age. From this you held up 3 podgy fingers with a beaming face, so proud that you were able to show me.

Again you promptly asked if I would be your girlfriend as 'evertone has a girlfriend at nursery!'
Of course, I politely declined and you looked slightly downcasted before looking back up at your mum brandishing the finished apple and squeeling 'All done!' and handed over the demolished apple core. From this you quickly forget the rejection that you've recieve by the random person you happened to fall into.

One day I feel you're going to be a heartbreaker- but maybe you should think about introducing yourself before asking any girl if they want to be your girlfriend. (Even if everyone else at nursery had one!)

Day 5.

My Dreams.

I only tend to remember the bad dreams or the dreams which are so unbelievably real that I am utterly confused when I wake up.
If I was to write to my bad dreams I would tell them off and complain that my bad dreams don't always reflect life, something that has become more apparent recently, and that I can choose my own path.

As well as dreams that take a stroll through my subconscious I would also write to my dreams, my aspirations. I have always wanted to work with people and finally this is coming true in September when I will be training to become a Social Worker. Following this however I would like to train to become a Medical Doctor. This is my biggest dream and something I feel I will work my hardest for to make true. Being a Doctor has been a dream since a little girl, after nun and air hostess, and I feel my biggest challenge that I will ever face (bar maybe looking at someones bum when they come in for an appointment) but overall this is the dream I will accomplish because it means more to me than anything else.

Rolling Stone

Leonardo DiCaprio

Personally I feel that Leo has always been a bit of a beaut but with age, he's grown into his suave hairstyle and just in general is pretty fit. Unlike many, many people I'm not a huge fan of Titanic like the masses but I can see why people were ultimately drawn to him and from that performance dragged him into the limelight. Plussss, I love the idea he can still do topless photo shoots! Makes life goooood

In his brand new film, Inception, he plays around in people's dreams so ofc, Brian Hiatt of Rolling Stone magazine asked what goes on in Leo's head.
“[My stomach churns over] really stupid stuff,” DiCaprio reveals. “Things that shouldn’t make you anxious whatsoever. It’s crazy how your mind will become this database to make you worry about things that are so arbitrary. I have a well-organized life, and I’ve put a lot of thought into the things that I do, and then, you know, my stomach will be…I’ll just be sitting there, totally anxious about something ridiculous.”

[All photos and interview snippet copyright of Rolling Stone Magazine.]

I feel that from a bunch of comments I have red a lot of people regard Leo as Marmite. They either love him or hate him, what a shame.

If money was no object....

...I would want this.
Agent Provocateur Swimsuit.

Its just beautiful. Simple.

The corset makes it seem like any woman would feel comfortable in it, just to pull in any extra baggage that they had not wanted to pack!

Only $790!
Oh dear, give me monies please?! :)

Day 4.

My Closest Relative.

I would say my closest relative isn't even a relative. She is my Godmother but has always been known to me as Aunty Kate.
So here goes...
Dear Aunty Kate,
You're amazing and have shown me how to be. You've never rushed things, you went to uni when you were like 40, and you loved it. You're so social and lovely to be around. As well as all this, you're like an older version of me. We are similar in nearly all ways possible, we share the same views and interests and well I love your lifestyle. You have completely inspired me to just be happy with the now and worry about the future later. I know you've had some blows in the last year and I hope you begin to feel better soon. All my Love xx

Day 3.

My Mum
(I am going to include my Nan as well)

To my mum and ofc my Nan,
Dragging me up hasnt been the easiest but you were both there. I love you both so much and I wouldn't change a thing apart from one thing, but that I cannot change, no matter what.
We had so many fun times and you've completely shaped me to be me, to be whoever I want and I completely appreciate that.
Mini letter within: Dear Nan, you were amazing in bringing me up and showed me old musicals from a young age and I completely appreciate being shown them as it brought us closer and gave us a common ground on which we could communicate. You always looked out for me and I will always appreciate it. The letters filled with inspiration are important and still mean a lot to me. I love you so much.xx
Mini letter within 2: Dear Mum, you have brought me up so well even though we have been not so smooth as of late, you are still my mum and always will be. I'm sure one day we will be back on track. I love you so much xx

I still did even after you were shwon as a womaniser, but I knew it was just a phase and we would get through it. Now we are loving life and well just being awesome.
P.S If you wouldn't mind please be topless more, nom :)

Day 1.

My Best Friend.

My Dear Barroneeee,
Well how to start?!
You're constantly there for me and you always make me laugh, we always have a giggle. We generally mooch around doing not a lot but we never seem to have enough time! I'm glad you follow my own love of shopping as it makes it far more enjoyable!
Next year, asap, we will have our own abode in which we can party and actually feel welcome in our own place. We can learn to cook (more than toast! I know risky but still!) and we can be both independent and brave enough in our choices to boost our confidence and well, conquer our list of things we NEED to do!
I have known you for sooo long now and well I wouldn't change any of it, lets have more fun times and go be us :)
Plus I need you around as you have my share of the boobage and if you weren't there it would look frightfully odd!

love choooooo
Love the Noblettt. xx

Jeans Day.

""I'm like every other woman: a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear: So I wear Jeans"
-Cameron Diaz
Just like Miss Diaz says some days you can get up look in your wardrobe at all the lovely items you have and not want to wear any of it! The other day I had this very problem and decided on jeans! To accompany it however I wore my new Mac and thrifted top and bag. These are my new favourite items to go with jeans! I have always been told I was born in the wrong time period and I completely agree. I would love to go back to when everyone looked sophisticated; males and females. Ahhh, those were the days.
Mac from Primark £17.00
Bag (the colour has been altered within the photo, the left is closer to the original) £2.99
Loafers by Nicole. I bought these from Brighton a while ago and cannot remember the price!
Shirt, Topshop, thrifted, £1.59
Necklace, Dorothy Perkins
Earrings, Matalan £4.00
Belt, Primark £1.00
Better photos will be taken soon as my broken camera has been replaced!
I have also acquired a lot of new things recently so maybe more photos to follow!

Country Walks.

...and then it rained, but ofc.
My mum who was at work today asked if I could take my little puppy out for a walk today and of course I said yes as he is actually so cute! Walking around is nice but when by oneself can be a tad boring so I decided to take some photos. (Luckily my phone has an awesome camera as I've only just bought a new one today to replace the one which died!) Mostly to illustrate the lovely area I live in but also to mock my puppy who has been half shaven. He's a little lion, purely down to the fact he got too scared when the shaver got close to his face. A mission for another day I feel.

Unfortunately the local forested area which is closest to me is under threat from a local business man who wants to chop half of it down to build a workshop when there is plenty of other options available. The final verdict on this hasn't been reached yet and I hope it doesn't happen as I've seen a group of deer and it would be awful if they were disturbed.

Fully dressed for the country!
Scarf from the mother.
Stripy Top from Peacocks £9.00
Mac from Primark £17.00

Flying the Nest 3.

" I no longer prepare food with more than one ingredient."
-Cyra Mcfadden

One of my biggest problems and one of the biggest problems I know of with people of my age group is that a lot of us either do not know how to cook or they just don't want to! I have to admit I am leaning more towards the 'I don't want to approach' as I feel I don't have the technical know how in preparing something, anything edible.
Like in a previous post I do generally live off toast! However, hold the phone, I've incorporated yoghurt! Oh yes, I've gone all out! Another problem with learning how to cook is the overwhelming amount of chefs that are actually out there now! The following are all chefs who are current (now of just have been) and have all released a cook book some time along the line.

This is just a small selection of the chefs that are currently out there! (A more in depth look can be found if you CLICK HERE!) It's unreal the amound there actually is! How am I meant to decide who to go for! Who has the best recipes?! Who can feed me the most? But with the lowest budget!
Well my friends this is my mission! I am on a cooking mission. I am going to learn how to cook! Even if its just something simple I will be utterly delighted.
I am not going to purchase a book by the millions of celeb chefs that seem to be creeping out, but looking at old chefs, simple cooking and of course ask my Mum and Kelly's Gran for tips.

Heres one more chef to add to the list.

Flying the Nest Part 2.

Junk Shop Chic.

So on to home furnishings. Obviously I am going to be a lowly student in which I rent a room in a house somewhere in which I don't have the permission, and maybe the inclination, to decorate. Bar little things like knick knacks.

I am, and have been told, that I am an old lady in a young persons body. I like old knick knacks and like to have all my memories and posessions out on show like little trophies. I can't be doing with this minimalist lark as I feel it to be rather emotionless and well just not fun. When I go places I like to be able to sit down and look around while soaking up all the emotions that are there.

So even though I am ever so slightly premature I have been looking around at little pieces which I can pair with my own and eventually take with me. I have found this beautiful site called Graham and Green and the items are beautiful. (Click Here for the site.) Here aresome of my favourite pieces.

As I was browing the net the other night I came across some new photos from the July Anthropologie catalogue. To be honest I'm not so bothered about the clothes but the sets are beautiful. Have a gander.(Click here for the link to anthropologie)

I'm finally blogged out. Well for now :). I'm sure there will be more Flying the Nest posts soon.

Flying the Nest Part 1.

One day I will be flying th nest, so to speak, and I feel it will be my time to be fully independent.
Maybe even learn to cook a bit, maybe not. Last time I attempted to cook I mutilated an onion and was told to go sit down and watch telly, oh I felt so grown up then! Lol.

Soooo, in September I will finally be going to Uni, oh yes the wait is over. A little late seeing as I'm about ooooh, three years behind but none the less I am going to throughly enjoy it and well I wouldn't have gotten on to the Social Work course had I been younger, as they like 'life experience'.
I do like to help people but I feel another HUGE reason in why I would like to become one is that I associate their wardrobe with a somewhat dressed down accountant. Smart but stylish, niceee! Which of course means a whole new aspect to my wardrobe as I will need work wear! Oh yes, the dreaded placement of actually having to go deal with people, which in all fairness I will enjoy whole-heartedly. Anyway back to the theme, so I have decided I want my wardrobe to be similar to this. And seeing how many of the pieces are relatively expensive I am either going to start saving now or wait until I'm qualified. Either way :) (To be honest I have no idea who half of these designers are but I like bar the price tag)
Overall I feel I may look good and I really want the flat black brogues maybe a bit tooooo much. Its either those of a blu-ray player I've been told about. Awful decisions.
As well as my wardrobe I want to begin a new life in a new room somewhere but I feel decoration could be for another post :)

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."
Marilyn Monroe

“I've never dropped anyone I believed in.”

Doctor Who!... Once Again!

By now you've probably all guessed that I have a slight love for the Doctor Who series and all that jazz. So today me and my friendling decided to go to the Centre of Life to see the Doctor Who exhibition. Well of course I became click happy with the camera (so much so it died and I had to use my phone) and ran around squealing like a child. Needless to say I enjoyed it throughly and well I will go again.

Heres some photos of me and kelly. Kelly looking lovely and calm and me well, not so much.

Me being a Dalek, yes I am that cool.

Kelly looking through the telescope from the Queen Victoria and the Werewolf Episode (yes I'm a nerd, and yes I paraded around knowing where every character came from)

The Weeping AngelS!

Kelly and the Tardis, I will own one.

Yeahhhhh, I'm part of the Slitheen Family.nomnomnommm.

Doctor Who makes the cool kids cooler.

Hello! I could be a Fashion Icon.

Previously I had posted about some gorgeous shoes that I had to have! (CLICK HERE TO SEE)
Well I haven't been able to afford them, dammit, but Katy Perry has obviously found the love in the new shoot for mens magazine Esquire! I believe she saw them on here and wanted them. Ho Hum, if only I was famous.

Von Teese & Gaultier

This follows on quite nicely from my previous post on burlesque performers so lets thank Dita Von Teese and Jean Paul Gaultier for that one!

Miss Von Teese made a suprise appearance on Jean Paul's catwalk today in Paris. The range of individually inspired lingerie was designed and modelled by her, allowing her to show off her pin-up, beautiful-but-petite curves especially the slim fitting but gorgeous corset.

Gahhhh, I would love to be like this. Perfection.

Burlesque is a Lost Art.

Burlesque has always been seen as a beautiful art and not just some beautifully-self-confident women stripping off.
Yes it does involve that element but it also focuses around the empowerment of the female form, no matter what size or shape you are. Which I personally love the ethos and the time burlesque came into play was when women, in my opinion, looked their most sexy and self assured in themselves.
Confident and classic.
Who would of course include the legendary Bettie Page.

So with the new movie set to come out soon which is going to include Christina Aguilera (personal love), Cher and Kristen Bell. Overall, a cracking line up with some classic names apart from the shock of Kristen but I'm sure they wouldn't have gotten her in if she was completely rubbish.
As well as the aforementioned there is also some other well known actors who will be playing a role including Stanley Tucci (from The Devil wears Prada, the Lovely Bones and Julie & Julia), Alan Cumming and Cam Gigane. Pretty good it must be said and come on, who doesn't love a bit of a sing and dance! Heres some stills that I've come accross. They are from Empire online, click HERE to access.
